Ata played 43 Internationals and gained respect as Pakistan’s third seamer during the 1990’s. He often bowled testing spells after Wasim and Waqar had caused damage with the new ball. His career stalled and he was given a life ban in the ‘match fixing scandal’. By the time, he proved his innocence in the Courts and the ICC revoked his life ban, his top flight career had ended with many seamers ahead of him. This hasn’t dampened his enthusiasm, as Ata recently played several 2nd XI games for Derbyshire. Ata has over a decade of league experience in Ribblesdale, Cheshire County, Liverpool Competition, Tyneside and North Staffs leagues. This year, he played for Brigade in the North West Union in Ireland and helped secure a league title, with solid bat and ball efforts. Four outstanding sessions in the North Yorks & South Durham for Great Ayton, saw Riaz amass 2000 league runs @ 30 and 339 wickets @ 15. These efforts rewarded his side with a league title and several cup triumphs. A cricketer who is capable of 100 wickets and 700 runs a season means Rio’s stock will always be high. Level 2 qualified.
