Ataur Rehman - Under Offer

Ata played 43 Internationals and gained respect as Pakistan’s third seamer during the 1990’s.  He often bowled testing spells after Wasim and Waqar had caused damage with the new ball.  His career stalled and he was given a life ban in the ‘match fixing scandal’.  By the time, he proved his innocence in the Courts and the ICC revoked his life ban, his top flight career had ended with many seamers ahead of him.  This hasn’t dampened his enthusiasm, as Ata recently played several 2nd XI games for Derbyshire.  Ata has over a decade of league experience in Ribblesdale, Cheshire County, Liverpool Competition, Tyneside and North Staffs leagues.  This year, he played for Brigade in the North West Union in Ireland and helped secure a league title, with solid bat and ball efforts.  He also proved critics wrong who said he could bat with near 700 league runs and 35 wickets.  In one T20 game, he smashed a 42 ball 120*.  Level 2 qualified, Ata enjoys coaching young seamers in the art of seam bowling and is a great club servant with his vast experience.

Abdur Rauf

Another from the long line of Pakistan seam bowling talent.  Rauf has been on the periphery of International  cricket from 2003 and represented Pakistan A on several occasions at home and away.  Like most tall quicks, Rauf hits the deck and gets the ball to bounce at pace, thus testing many of the best batters.  Made a belated ODI debut in 2008 and Test debut in 2009.  His first foray in League cricket was in 2002 at Westhoughton, where he scored 650 league runs and took his 100th league wicket on the last day of the season.  He also played 2nd XI cricket for Glamorgan in 2006 and was close to becoming their overseas player.  Captains at First Class level . A powerfully built seam bowler hailing from the North West Frontier.  ‘Rio’ was part of the U19 World Cup team in 2003 and progressed through the Academy and A team format to win a Test Cap.  Bowls at a bustling pace.  His prowess with the bat is akin to his namesake Shahid Afridi.  On song, Rio’s stay at the crease for 30 minutes  will destroy any league attack.  Four outstanding sessions in the North Yorks & South Durham for Great Ayton, saw Riaz amass 2000 league runs @ 30 and 339 wickets @ 15.  These efforts rewarded his side with a league title and several cup triumphs.  A cricketer who is capable of 100 wickets and 700 runs a season means Rio’s stock will always be high.  Level 2 qualified. Riaz is present Captain of Peshawar.

Over 4 years with us he was exceptionally good as a pro. Took 100 wickets one season, a rare occurrence in our league. Had 3 9fers and not many weeks without a 5fer, bowls his heart out every week. Swashbuckling bat scored 100 his first appearance plus a couple more, hits the ball a country mile and only knows one way to bat hence it's a lot or nowt! .Always drew a large crowd.

His teammates loved him.  He never coached for us but we put him through a UKCC2 coaching course at Old Trafford. He was really good with our youngsters though, they all worshipped him. He would be a lot better now as he is more confident with his English.
We never retained him in 2010 due to the economical turn down and the club resources limits taking him out of our financial budget, he was a perfect pro in his attitude and performances.

He impressed many a judge and thanks to Pakistan star, Azhar Ali, Irfan signed for KRL.  His 2nd and 3rd FC games saw him take a combined tally of 20/297 and confirm his undoubted, but raw skills.

Irfan ended his maiden season with 43 wickets at 28.73.  These efforts booked his seat for Pakistan A’s tour to Sri Lanka.  After the debacle of last year’s Pakistan series in England, Irfan was called up to replace the banned seam duo and made his ODI debut.

Mohammad Sami

Burst onto the World stage with a maiden ‘5 for’ in New Zealand, which had many onlookers purring at the discovery of another genuine Pakistani quick.  Sami has the distinction of Test and ODI hat-tricks.  His top level career has suffered in Test Cricket with so many catches being dropped behind the stumps.  However, his ODI career is still very good.  Recalled in 2010 and produced a devastating new ball spell against Australia to affirm he still is one of the top quick’s around.  Sami has had 2 County stints with Kent, and is also in Sussex folklore, as he helped Murray Goodwin in a century stand to clinch the CB40 Trophy in 2008.  A short spell in the Liverpool Competition Premier League after injury had many a player missing that fixture!

Zohaib Khan - Player Signed

The younger brother of Pakistan A player, Shoaib Khan.  Zohaib’s impact in North East Premier Cricket has been one of excellence.  ‘ZK’ had immediate impact upon his arrival as a first time professional with 554 runs @ 46 and 42 wickets at 14. His improved that further in 2010, by crossing 600 runs and 50 wickets in the highly competitive league.  Despite the poor weather, he again performed and helped win 2 cup titles.  Making Newcastle his second home for a 4th season at Benwell, Zohaib is liked by team mates, club mates and opponents alike.  Level 2 qualified.

Many members of our club regard Zohaib as our best ever Professional. That is some Compliment when the recent & not so recent competition is so strong. It is rare that he does not contribute with either bat or ball – a quick look on Cricket Archive would confirm that fact! The raw figures show his all-round quality in the North East Premier League. 1801 runs @ 45.02 with 5 100s & 141 wickets @ 15.24 with 8 5wi mark him as fantastic cricketer in league cricket. On top of that Zohaib is fully committed to his team-mates success and that of the club. He is a fine player and a fine man to play cricket with.

BATSMEN

Taufeeq Umar

Left handed Taufeeq Umar first played in the UK in 1996 in the U15 World Cup.  He then toured in 1998 with the U19 side.

His first entry into League Cricket at Hetton Lyons in 2001, was cut short after a few weeks, where he was called into the National Team.  He responded by scoring a Century on Test Debut and made his ODI debut, a few weeks later.

Taufeeq is an opening batsman who relies on solidity and patience.  His is quick footed and pulls and cuts well.  He has represented Pakistan in West Indies, UAE, Sri Lanka, Australia, England and South Africa.

In 2005, he played league cricket at Benwell Hill, in the North East Premier league and scored 765 runs @ 69.55 a league record at the time.  He left 5 weeks early for Pak A duties, but left the club extremely happy in his services.
After suffering a loss of form and being ignored by Pakistan selectors, he defected to the ICL.

This was also followed up with a 2 month stint in the Northern Premier League for Lancaster in 2008.

He has returned to big time cricket with a bang after a 4 year gap and recently scored a Test match best of 236 v Sri Lanka.

In total, Taufeeq has played 57 times for Pakistan and scored over 3000 International runs.
Taufeeq is ECB Level 2 qualified and turns the ball as a genuine off spinner.

Mohammad Awais

Another player from the Pakistan U19 conveyor belt.   Awais represented Pakistan juniors on 9 occasions and toured Zimbabwe & Sri Lanka.

Awais has progressed to playing for Sui Gas, and understudy to Pakistan’s Adnan Akmal.

He is developing his abilities as a reliable middle order batsman and has scored a maiden FC century.

Awais’s abilities are not restricted to keeping, and he does bowl competent leg breaks during his club matches.

He is now eager to further his cricket development with a season in the UK and would consider most options.

Zulqarnain Haider

Any club looking for an International batsman with a career average of 33 plus, can bowl a spell often, could do no wrong looking at his credentials.

Zain Abbas

Multan born Zain, is a left handed opening bat whose mannerisms duplicate his cricketing idol, Saeed Anwar.  Zain is an aggressive and stylish opening bat who was fast tracked into the Pakistan Academy development programme after impressing at regional U19 level.

His First Class debut was against a strong Punjab side and he did not disappoint in carrying his bat for 71*.  The next game was the televised Pentangular 5 day Final.  His opponents boasted an International attack that included Mohammad Sami, Sohail Khan and Danish Kaneria, however, the youngster was not overawed and powered his way to a 106 ball 90.  In 50 over cricket, he has scored 381 runs in 5 innings with a best of 122.  He is striking at over 103 runs per 100 balls faced and 127 runs per 100 deliveries faced in T20 format as 224 runs in 6 games proves.

Naved Latif

A player of immense talent who played 1 Test Match and 11 ODI’s and was another to suffer from the glut of talent that Pakistan had.

Naved has been the scourge of domestic bowlers throughout his domestic Pakistan career.  A quite explosive batsman who scores runs with speed and ease employing orthodox and improvised shots, sees Naved closing on 8000 FC and 4000 List A runs.  Throughout his 300 match career, he has also bowled very useful medium pace.  He carries a FC career best of 394!

‘Needo’ was part of the Faisalabad T20 side that won the inaugural World T20 championship that took place at Leicester in 2005.  He played a match wining knock of 45 to seal the title for his side.  He was also part of the Lahore Badshah’s ICL winning side and has represented Pakistan in South Africa, Hong Kong sixes on 5 occasions, India, Bangladesh and UAE.

Naved has 3 years UK experience, but not played UK League cricket recently.  He is very motivated to return for a final swansong and show League cricket his unquestioned talent and experience both on and off the field.

One of the unlucky ones in Pakistan cricket, not to have gone on to play regular International cricket.  Toured England in 2003 and returned home after breaking his finger a few days after.  Has never had a look in thereafter due to the illustrious household names in Pakistan’s batting order.

A high class top order batsmen who played a solitary ODI.  He has amassed 8000 career runs, can keep wicket and also started to bowl more frequently.  Faisal seeks his first full professional engagement, however he did average 202 during a several game period in 2005, which is backed up with an excellent club reference.  A real match winner with the bat, whose bowling should not be underestimated.

Mohammad Wasim

Scored a Test Century on debut against New Zealand, Wasim was seen as an outstanding batting prospect by many Pakistan greats. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case, as Wasim suffered at the hands of inconsistent selection policies.  He was due to be recalled to the Test squad in 2010 after 3 seasons of 50+ averages.  He suffered again with selection issues.  In between this, Wasim, came very close to playing Test Cricket for New Zealand after settling there.  Wasim is a world class batsman and bowls leg breaks.  Has several years experience in Holland, Liverpool and East Anglian cricket.  NZCC Level 2 qualified.

Ataur Rehman

Waqas shared the new ball in the early part of his First Class career with Mohammad Asif and Rana Naveed.  He then moved to ‘the Man U’ of Pakistan cricket, in Habib Bank.  He was never overawed and performed credibly when played.  Alongside this, he built his league career with stints in Birmingham, North East Prem, Liverpool Comp, Lincs Premier leagues. After marriage, he settled in the Midlands, and played for Peterborough in the Northants Premier.  ‘WC’ doesn’t look like a quick bowler, however, a ‘Google’ search will testify that he bowls an excellent Yorker at pace.  When  batting, he displays style and patience.  He didn’t play in 2010, due to work commitments, but returned this year with a Lancashire League sub pro effort with bat and ball, and then in 8 games for Burton Latimer (Northants Prem), he took 32 wickets @ 9.22, with a best of 9/15 and average of 20 with the bat.  Waqas has his own transport and with no ancilliary costs for a club, bar match fee, Waqas’s services will be very much in demand at every level.
